Unity in Diversity — Strength or Slogan?
26 January Special | A Message to the Public
“Unity in Diversity” is often repeated in speeches and textbooks.
It sounds inspiring. It feels comfortable.
But its real meaning is tested in daily life.
Diversity is easy to praise.
Unity is harder to practice.
India is diverse in language, faith, culture, and opinion.
This diversity is not a problem to solve.
It is a reality to respect.
Unity does not mean sameness.
It means coexistence without fear, without domination, without exclusion.
When diversity is treated as a threat, society becomes fragile.
When diversity is respected, society becomes resilient.
Unity is not silence.
It is the ability to disagree without hatred.
A Republic survives not by erasing differences, but by protecting them within a shared constitutional framework.
